I have the honor to report in relation to the administration of Justice in cases where Freedmen were interested that but few cases have occurred in my Sub-dist during the past month, and that the Freedmen have been treated impartially except in two cases, neither of which are as yet settled: in one case now before the superior court (which is still in session at this place) the sentence of the jury was excessive for the crime committed, but it is understood that a new trial will be granted.

A case occurred which is now under investigation and which I have not as yet been able to obtain sufficient particulars to make a full report: I am informed by Lt. W. F. De Knight
