An industrious, well-behaved, and prudent Freedman always has white friends here, and such have, perhaps, as good a chance of obtaining justice as a white man — But the least show of insolence has a most prejudicial effect, and charges of this kind are sometimes trumped up for the purpose of arousing an unfriendly spirit.

In the higher Courts there is but little — if any — partiality shown.
