trate. Mr. "ELija B. Wade" before whom Greer was first taken, under warrant, having failed to take any action in the case, the indictment was effected only through the freedmen going himself before the Grand Jury.
9th "Catherine Davis" cold. Indicted at last August term -- before I cam here-- for Petit Larceny Pleaded not guilty. Appearance entered by Counsel case continued till next August term
10th "Edy Frith" cold. Indicted &c same as foregoing. Not ready for trial. Cause continued to next August term.
11th. "Edward Woods" cold. Indicted as per foregoing, for Trespass. Having pleaded not guilty, cause was continued to this term, when not being ready for trial, it was further continued to next August.
12th. "Peter Brown" cold. Indicted as per above, for receiving goods alleged to have been stolen by his wife and daughter, "Lylpline and Susan Brown" on which charge they were tried and acquitted before the Circuit
Court last October. Having pleaded not guilty, the cause was continued to his term when he was convicted and sentenced to ten days imprisionment in the County jail. Believing that in this anomalous case the freedmen had not been justly convicted, I on the 5th Inst, immediately after the trial, had the honor to submit a Special Report, in the premises, requesting that the whole proceedings might be declared null and void, and of no effect . To this Report I have as yet had no reply.
13th "James Preston" cold. charged with stealing a horse. Examined by the Court and sent on to be tried by the Circuit Court in May. Allowed bail; but not being able to give it, is still in jail. This mans case was made mention of both in my Report
