crib and returned to his house followed by two mens tracks  One of the witnesses saw George early in the morning unloading corn into his crib

There was no evidence to show that George Parham broke and entered the crib except the circumstances above stated 

George Parham proved by his mother that on the morning in question he had carried corn from her house which he had made in 1865 in a cart early in the morning four bushels and a half, and seven bushels more found in the crib There was no corn in his crib the day before

The trial was conducted fairly but the jury found him guilty and sentenced him to four years in the Penitentiary which I considered unjust. 

I will forward an application for his pardon

The grand jury found a true bill against Joseph Sheffield for shooting with intent to maim and kill one Randall Thompson (col'd) and he will be tried by the County Court in May

There were no freedmen tried before the court in Surry County during the month
