   James Anderson (colored) tried for an assault and Battery upon the person of John Anderson (colored) Sentence $5 fine and the costs
   Alexander Carter (colored) tried for stealing one horse of the value of $75 Sentenced to the Penitentiary for nine years. This case was tried at a former Term of the Court. The sentence was twelve years in the Penitentiary. That verdict was set aside by the Court and a new trial granted.
   At the Term of the County Court in Powhatan County for this month was examined Edmond Wade (colored) for house breaking and stealing oats. Sent on for trial at the Superior Court
   In each of the above cases  I have the honor to state that in my  opinion the trial was fair and unpartial one; the decision such as one as a sworn tribunal must necessarially have arrived at from the evidence adduced. In each case there were colored persons upon the stand to give evidence which they done creditably, well and I believe truly, and that it was so received and respected by Court, Jury and all interested and the law respecting
