General:
I have the honor to make the following report in compliance with Circular No 10 dated Hd. Qrs. Asst. Comr. State of Va. Richmond Va. March 12 1866.
There have been several Freedmen tried by the civil courts in this Sub. Dist. since my last report, all except one for stealing, the one was tried for cohabiting with a white woman but was acquitted.
Some time ago a colored woman was tried in the Middlesex Court for stealing some clothing from a married lady, and was convicted; her lawyer appealed from that decision to the Supreme Court on the grounds that the clothing did not belonged to the married lady, but belonged to her husband, the decision was petitioned to the Middlesex Co. Court
