until after it was all over and to move making an attempt to secure bail for his offenses before the Compensation Court at its next session, I cannot tell as to the facts in the case but I do know that the Mayor did not do him Justice in regard to bail as he gave prompting orders to have him put in Jail about the time that bail was offered saying that he would not be bothered anymore about it or words to that effect and it but the [[?]] that he give this order because the Freedman had seen fit to bring the matter to my notice while he was making an effort to procure the nesserary bail, he was however released in the evening of the same day he (the Negro) having concluded to accept the bail offered after the Freedman had been confined several hours.
 
The other Case was that of a Freedman in Clark Co by the name of John Taylor who was arrested on the 22d Inst and examined before the examining Court of the County on the 26th inst on the charge of murdering another Freedman named [[Judd? Juebal?]] or Judson [[Guin? Grim?]] of the same County. The Civil authorities extended to him the accused all the
