In compliance with Cir. No. 10. B.R.F. and A.L. Hd. Qrs. Asst Com'r. State of Va. dated March 12 1866.
Reports the conditions of Freedmens affairs in Loudon Co. Va. States that on the 30th of March last a white man named Jno W. Cole, attempted to murder a freedman named Lute Champ. Cole was arrested, and committed to jail, where he still is. He was tried on the 24th inst. by the Superior Court and acquited on the ground of insanity.
Respectfully suggests that the officer at Stanton, be instructed to inquire of the officers of the Asylum what the Condition of the man was when brought there.
