General,
In compliance with the provisions of Par. "6" Cir No "10" dated H'd Q'rs Asst Comr. State of V'a Richmond V'a Mar. 12th 1866, I have the honor to report, That but one criminal case in which a Freedman was concerned has been tried by the Magistrates of this Division during the month of May. No objection was made to the reception of Negro testimony. It was a case of alleged attempt to kill maim &c. The man was acquitted upon the testimony of two colored witnesses, partially corroborated by a white man, & in direct opposition to the testimony of two white men.
