at from twenty five to thirty dollars was found guilty and sentenced to Four months confinement in the County Jail, James Thompson (Freedman) was tried for being an accomplice in the same transaction, was found guilty and sentenced to two months confinement in the County Jail. James Laws (Freedman) was tried for stealing Clothing to the valuation of about Twenty five dollars, was found guilty and sentenced to Three months confinement in the County Jail, and Frank Randolph (Freedman) was tried for stealing wool amounting to about one hundred dollars was found not Guilty and was therefore acquitted

All of the above named Freedmen had a fair and impartial trial, and their punishment in some cases would have been greater but for the fact that they had already been confined some time in the County Jail before trial and takeing every thing into consideration the punishment in each case was just except perhaps in the case of Mary Parker whose sentence on account of her age (being but 14 years) seems rather severe and arbitration though it is the shortest term of imprisonment that the law provides for the offense committed,

There is an effort being made on the part of the Counsul for the Prisoner (Mr Monter) to obtain her release as he has forwarded a fairly strong petition
