was arrested & taken before Dr G. W. Raney J.P. who placed him under bonds of one hundred dollars to keep the peace & to appear before the Grand Jury at the Setember term of the Co. Court.

II Betsey Wessen, colored, made complaint the 17th inst. that Issac Wessen, on whose land she was living but not in his employment, made an assault upon her with a drawn knife in his hand, threatening her life if she did not get off his plantation at once. without any just cause whatever. I immediately issued an order to John Parish, Constable, to arrest the said Wessen & take him before me or the nearest magistrate, which order I had to repeat before it was obeyed. Wessen was arrested under the above named charges & brought before Joseph W. Rawlings J.P. who very reluctantly placed him under bonds to keep the peace for six months in the sum of one-hundred dollars.

The assaults in both cases were wholly unwarranted without justification.

Very Respectfully
