BUREAU REFUGEES, FREEDMEN, AND ABANDONED LANDS,
HD. QRS. ASS'T. SUB-ASS'T. COMM'R. 4TH DIV. 2ND SUB-DISTRICT,
Burkeville, Va., Aug 31st 1867

Bvt Major G. Mallery,
A. Asst Adjt. General

In compliance with Cir No 10, Hd Qrs, Asst Coms'r, C.S. 1866, I have the honor to submit the following Report, for the Co's of Nottoway and Lunenburg Va, For and during the month ending Aug 31st.

The Trial of Cases by the Civil Courts or Magistrates and in which Freedmen were parties, during the past month have been few, and no complaints of any injustice done them. have been reported to this Office, nor am I aware of any such.

The Magistrates are more disposed to attend to Freedmens Complaints than formerly, and with the occasional Supervision of a Military Commissioner, they improve remarkably, in the performance of their Official duties.

Very Respectfully
Your obdt Servant,
D. J. Connolly
Bvt Capt US Vols,
Asst Sub Asst Commissioner.
