that, by reason of the manner in which Justices are placed in office in Virginia it cannot be expected that reflecting substantial men would allow their names to be used in connection with the position. - The fact is that qualified and high toned men are by reason of the influences brought to bear, to receive the success of local party issues, driven from participating in public affairs and consequently the whole affair is surrendered to the control of the designing prejudiced politicians - of course, occasionally I find a genial honest, Christian man, in the position of a Magistrate, but I must confess in justice to my own honest convictions, which is the result of more than a years experience in open conflict with them, that a majority of them are indeed "weak brethren": and were it not that the re-organization of the Judiciary was at hand, I would
