complaint having been previously made to me, I myself sent the aggrieved parties before the Grand Jury. In the first case cited, the second party beaten was abused because of his professing to belong to the "Republican Party", and it being supposed that he was a "Red String". In the second case; it may be remembered that in my Report of the 31st May last, I mentioned that upon "Syrus Williams," who had been beaten by "J. H. Smith", by my request going before the Grand Jury, which met here on the 15th of that month, his complaint was totally disregarded.- I did not see plaintiff again after that, until the meeting of the Court this month.
Next- "Phillip Crump"- alias "Saunders"- Colored- likewise indicted by Grand Jury, for trespassing upon the property of "John W. Moore", by burning his rails.- Also sent to the County Court.
"Joe. Lavinder"- Colored- Previously indicted for cutting down trees on the land of "Wm. S. Hall"- White- New capias awarded to force appearance at this term. Sent to County Court.
"Hudson Finnie" - colored. Indictment against him for Petit Larceny returned by Grand Jury and Capias awarded last May. Sent to County Court.
"Green Noell - colored. Indictment returned and capias awarded against him at May term of the court, for Petit Larceny. Sent to County Court.
"Margaret Minter" - colored - Tried, found guilty and sentenced to three years imprisonment in pententiary at May term of the Court, for burning a tobacco barn, but verdict set aside, and new trial granted. At this last term tried again; but the Jury not agreeing, case sent to the County Court.
"John Green" - colored - and "Ellen Ferguson"
