Bureau R F and A Lands Office A.S.A.C. 1st Div 1st S. Dist Va Fredericksburg Va Dec 4th 1867 Sears, Hector 2nd Lt VRC A.S.A.C. In compliance with Circular H.12 dated Hd Qtr Asst Comm, State of Va Richmond Va January 8th 1867. Reports, that as Mil. Commissioner he has taken cognizance of the following cases, in which the right of freedmen were involved 1st. Charles H and Nathaniel Lucas against James Green Stafford County Verdict for Lucas. 1st, 50.00 damages, which left him $2.20 in debt referred to Bvt Lt Col James Johnson, not since heard from 2nd Case of James Williams of Stafford County now under investigation 3rd Wilson Smith col'd against Thos B Timberlake, Assault, recommending Timberlake from Office as Constable Bureau RF and A Lands HQ Sub AC 6th Sub Dist Va Fredericksburg, Va. Dec 4, 1867 Respectfully forwarded to Bvt Brig Genl O. Brown Asst Comr. The two cases referred to as having been forwarded to me were forwarded to Brevet Colonel SF Chalfin, AA General, First Mily District, with endorsements upon the same recommending that the Military Commissioner be ordered to retry the first cases and that constable Timberlake be removed from office.
