heart, the third one fired a ball through one of his arms then they struck him over the head, Georges Brother then interfered, and they left.

George went before the grand jury. the parties were indighted, but were acquitted on trial, failing there, George sues for damages, and the jury return a verdict of only $140. the next day in an action against Mr Wooton for a much less aggrivated offence in an assalt upon Beverly Canada, the verdict was $6,000. on motion to set aside the verdict in Woottons case, the Judge was about to do it when the council proposed a compromise, the Judge told them unless they were willing to cut it down to $1,000, he would grant a new trial.

On motion to set aside the verdict in George Williams case, a proposition was again made to compromise. the Judge told them unless they gave George at least $500. he would grant a new hearing. for the evidence showed it to be a most brutal assalt, and the damages were entirely inadequate to commensurate him for the damages he had received. Georges Council, finding that two of the defendants were bankrupt the third offering to pay $250. it was accepted as you will see from a copy of the record. 

This trial shows why so much noise was made about George Williams having a Militia Co. last fall, he being the same man that the Military Commissioner had arrested for insurection &c. The cases above refered
