In compliance with Par VI Circular No. 10 Hd. Qrs. Asst. Comr Va. March 12" 1866 I have the honor to report the following cases, tried by the civil authorities in First Division, in which colored persons were parties, viz:

1st. Lucy Forge, col. vs. A. Latham, white, -
This was a case of assault on the child of a colored woman, by a white man, with a stick, the aggressor entering the womans house, and forcibly and violently laying hold of and beating the child with a stick and shaking him by the hair of the head. The case was tried by Mr Samuel R. Atwell without notice to me, and decision rendered against the colored woman for $1.60 costs.
