John Sechofield (White) was tried for unlawfull assault on four colored women. they were in their own house at their work singing, Schofield came there and ordered them to shut up their noise. which they refused to do, after finding out there was no person sick in the neighbourhood, Schofeild got enraged went into the house, (that House being the personal property of those women) and commenced beating them, first with his fists afterwards drawing his knife and inflicting a painfull cut across the back of the hand of one of the women, he was fined $15 00/100 and let go without reproof or caution from the Court; In this court they Stretch the law without mercy in cases of colored persons who are so unfortunate as to be brought before it charged with offences against the Commonwealth, or white people, and it is just the reverse where white persons are charged with offences against colored; Respectfully Submitted;
