against the Freedmen, cause juries, Commonwealth's Attorney and Magistrates to be very severe in the punishments awarded to Freedmen and evidence given by Freedmen does not have the same weight as that given by Whites. While all the appearance of fair trial is given to all, still color has a great influence on a large proportion of the verdicts given
