Rec'd back Oct 22th/66
Bureau R F & A L
Office Asst Supt Counties of Frederick & Clark Va
Winchester Va Oct 18th/66

Respectfully returned with information that I have been unable to learn outrages of the kind mentioned within having been committed upon the colored people in the vicinity of Winchester Va or at Brucetown Va. further than this - about six or eight months ago Flora Grey, a Freedwoman made an attempt to open a school for Freedmen in Brucetown. but met with so much opposition that she gave it up. But so far as I could learn there were no threats made to harm or injure her. I have it from a good reliable union man, Joseph Jollifee, that the people of Brucetown are very well disposed towards the Freedmen.
I would also state that I saw the Mrs Allen referred to within and her statement now is that she had heard these retorts and spoke of them to Dr Patze not as facts but as hearsay reports, which have no foundation in fact beyond what is mentioned above.
