Crawley v.s. Jackson

Have known the Deft. Jackson ever since he was a boy. All I know about this case is., that in the year of 1863, I was weeding corn with Cary Crawley. He told me that his (Crawley's) mother had never rented the place; that she let him have the place for taking care of the orchard, so that she could get fruit at any time she wanted it.

John Kennedy Sworn
My name is Jonathan Kennedy. In 1862 Cary Crawley in passing my house informed me that he paid no rent for the place. he lived on that when he first went there his mother told him that if he went there and took care of the [[strikethrough]] place [[/strikethrough]] peach orchard on the place that would be all she required. The place he had reference to is the place he then lived on, and the place Jackson lately lived on. I think Carey Crawley did not cultivate more than 15 acres.

Lizzie J. Jackson Sworn.
I gave Mrs Lettie Crawley rent (3 bushels of corn) for a small piece of land rented from her by my husband before his death, not quite a year ago. At, that time she did not ask me for the rent for the other part of the property we were living on.

The case here closed

Decision

It was decided that Mrs Lettie Crawley be directed to allow Mrs Jackson (late Crawley) to occupy the 12 acres of land in Question, paying rent for the same.
