Proceedings in the case of Dick Denton and others (Freedmen) plaintiffs against William Wynne (White) defendant, as heard and decided by the Freedmens Court of Hanover County Va, on Saturday April 7th 1866

All the members of the Court being present the case of Dick Denton, Albert Clark and James Prior, plaintiffs against William Wynne defendant was called up, The plaintiffs and defendant being present; The plaintiffs stated that this suit was brought to compel the defendant to pay them five dollars per month each, for services rendered by their wives while in the Service of the defendant; under a verbal contract; from April 3 1865 to September 15th 1865 and that each case be tried Separately instead of taking the whole jointly, which request being granted. The Court proceeded to hear the the case of

Dick Denton (Freedman) vs. William Wynne (white} 
action to recover pay for his wifes labor from April 3d 1865 to Sept 15th 1865 @ 5 dolls per month Verbal Contract.
All parties being present and ready to proceed, Dick Denton Plaintiff being duly Sworn was Examined as follows, By the Court, State all you know about this Contract between your wife and defendant, State also all you know about what work she done, and whatever you know of anything bearing on this case 

A.   I know nothing of the contract except what my wife told me. When I took my wife away from the defendants Service, he told me he intended to give
