Q   What time did you generally get out to work.

A   At daybreak?

Q   At what time did you go to the field to work.

A   About half an hour after sunrise?

Q   Did you, or not return daily to the house from the field, to suckle your child, between breakfast and dinner time and between dinner and supper time and at dinner time.

A   I always did between breakfast and dinnertime and at dinner time and sometimes between dinner time and night.

Q   At what time did you apply to me for pay

A   A few days before I left you?

Q   Did I not tell you along with my other women servants soon after the fall of Richmond, that you were free and that you could leave me, or remain with me, that if you remained with me I should do the same part by you that I had always done, that is feed and clothe you and pay your doctor bills when sick

A   No Sir you never told me so

Q   Did you consider you were worth, with a sucking child as much as women without incumbrances

A   Yes sir I think I was

Q   Did the other women come to the house when you did

A   No Sir those had no children did not
