Aaron Jackson. (Col'd) being duly sworn deposeth as follows
Am employed by the U.S. as teamster in Bureau R F and A L at Yorktown, Va. on the morning of July 4th 1866 at about Eight O'Clock while going for water saw Croxton Loomis with a gun in his hand following the ox. soon after heard a shot fired, and on going to ascertain the cause of the shot found that the ox had been shot and was in a dying condition, discovered the ox by hearing his groans, has never had any conversation with the prisoner on the subject.

Silas Smith (Col'd) being duly sworn deposeth as follows
Am employed by the U.S. as teamster in Bureau R F & A L at Yorktown, Va., went with Jackson after water on the morning of July 4' 1866.  saw a man driving the ox could not recognise the man, heard a shot fired. do not know who fired it. has spoken to the prisoner
