I know of no Day School in this [[?]] at the present time. There are several Sabbath schools which are attended and encouraged by the white citizens: The one at Ashland averages are attendance of about fifty scholars, The remainder are in remote sections of the county, and as I have been unable to visit them. I am unable to give particulars as to numbers.
I earnestly request attention to the great need there is of a good school at this place. There are very many who ought to be attending school; who can do no good to themselves or any body else out of school. There should be ten (10) cold free schools in this County, Let a Teacher or Teachers be sent to us as soon as possible.
