In reply to your communication of the 1st inst. I have the honor to state that it is with difficulty suitable quarters for a Company of Infantry can be had at present.

I find but one building, the Seminary, which may be had, & concerning which I have written the owner who resides in Mobile, & will inform you of his reply as soon as received.

The Major Genl Comadg desires to station a Company of Infantry at this point and inquires whether suitable quarters for Officers & Enlisted men including Cookhouse &c, can be had.

Please inform me whether any portion of your Seminary buildings can be had for the purpose, and at what rate of rent.

Enclosed please find communication from WR Poindexter signifying his willingness to rent the Seminary buildings for Government purposes.
 
Messr's Shumaker & Patty, his Agents, ask $150.00 a month rent if occupied by but one company. 
They would I think accept less 

The accommodations for both Officers & Enlisted Men are all that could be desired, and as ample for three or four companies.
