Lient. Conyngham, A.A.A.G.

Sir,
I have the honor, to invite the attention of the Asst. Comr. to the enclosed communication My attention was given to this case before I left Macon, Miss. for this station. - Mr Colbert, of Noxubee Co. and Harrison, & Co. (eleven (11) freedpersons,) appeared before me on the 13th inst. - Mr C. stated that Barnes, Haynes, & Co, Mobile, Ala. were his agents and had not come to a settlement, and urged me to write that Co. which I did, and received this accompanying reply. -
on the 19th inst. The men are working for Mr Colbert, this 1867 and Mr C. told me, in their presence, that they are "faithful men" but, replied the freedman, Harrison, looking Colbert, steadfastly in the face, "You have not paid us a cent since Jany. 1866."
