NARA 686

T.H.Cole
Nov 19th 1867

This boy Penn Cole says you wish me to write a few lines in reference to a case he has before you, He was charged with killing a mare belonging to one Cornelia Cole, in 1866, At the end of the year, he says, and they admit, that they retained $48 00/100 of Penn’s wages to pay for the mare, After this they brought the mother before the grand jury, had Penn indicted for malicious mischief and he was convicted and fined and imprisoned by the circuit judge, Penn thinks it hard that he should have been prosecuted after he thought he had satisfied the owner,

Very respectfully
Israel Welch
