On Monday after your visit to this place I recd a communication from Bvt Maj Gen A.C. Gillem transmitting through this office the removal of John W. Gully & appointing A.J. Lee to the Sheriffality of this County.
Mr Lee proceeded at once to file in proper Office, his bond's & the Probate Judge sent to my Office, a certificate saying that Mr Lee heed given Satisfactory Security also Mrs. Lee's letter of acceptance which I enclosed through my assistant Commissioner to Gen Ord. I then handed Mr. Lee his Commission & addressed a note to Mr. Gully saying that Mr. Lee had complied with [[strikethrough]] Lee [[/strikethrough]] Orders, taken the Oath of Office &c - Mr. Gully however refused to surrender the office to Mr Lee challenging my rights & act in the presence -
He then procured from friends such certificates as he might demand of them -
