NARA 766

Scooba, December 24, 1867

Mr Roberts:
I have just rec'd you letter. There was a force from Cooksville Noxubee Co. at Jacks plantations yesterday who said they were acting under orders from some Freedman agent. As to their authority I know nothing of. The force however have returned to Noxubee, did return yesterday. The trouble all originated between a Mr Aust a one Bill Stark about the division of the crop a settlement I think it would be best & I recommend that some army commission be sent to Cooksville to investigate the whole affair & settle it. I mean a Military Commission.. A speedy investigation I would suggest as for the best.

Yours &c
H. Woods Jr.
