NARA 859

The witness as well as remembered of testimony not recorded said that Kizer called a man residing on Mr Sheltons premises and told him his brother was on the RR and wanted him to go to him and walk some distance with him. The man then asked him to tell him his brothers name & he could not & the man refused to go & says that he verily believed that Kizers object was to kill him. Of this however you can ask Mr Shelton who will call upon you tomorrow & explain these things. So far as I am concerned I have no disposition to imprison any man either White or Black but at the same time if I act as an Officer I will perform my duty to the best of my ability acording to the law & the testimony. Excuse me Major for writing this long letter which is only intended to set myself right in the premises

Very Respectfully
Thomas Haynes
