Macon Miss -- Gentlemen,
In order to comply with General Orders No. 8 from sub-district of Miss - copy enclosed - I have the honor to inform you that upon your requisition - Guards - will be furnished to "preserve the public peace, bring offenders to justice, and protect all classes of the community in the right of voting free from all intimidation."  I suggest on the day of election a guard of ten men with suitable number of non-commissioned officers be stationed near the Polls, not to interfere with the voting, but to be in readiness to quell any disturbance should there be any.  Your views on this subject are respectfully requested in writing.
