When I received the vouchers to be signed by the members of the Freedmens Court. Maj Crandon directed one to send them to Gordonsville as soon as possible. I did so on the 26th of Oct 1866. Maj W.R. Morse who was stationed at Gordonsville returned them to me saying that he could not pay them and that Maj Crandon had gone to Batavia Ill. and directed me to send them there to him. I then forwarded them to Maj Crandon Batavia Ill. on Nov 5, 1866 and have not heard from them since. The names of the members of the Freedmens Court of the Sub-Dist is Peter Ainslie for the whites and Geo. W. Claivue for the blacks.

Transcription Notes:
---------- Reopened for Editing 2024-06-10 17:05:32 The name is Garrick MALLERY. The L.R. letter and number and volume are most important. The names, etc... to the left are found in the letter or connection to that letter. If a person is searching for a person's name or the War Dept., for example, this specific initial and letter and volume for a certain year will be what they look for. These are not Letters Sent. They are Letters Received. So if the War Dept. is referred to in the letter, the Letter Received would most likely be a W., followed by a number, then volume, and year. For example: L.R.W.59.1.V.67. or as on this page, just W.59.1.V.67. ---------- Reopened for Editing 2024-06-10 17:20:05 ---------- Reopened for Editing 2024-06-11 22:19:49
