Brown, through Capt. R.L. Lacy; I enclosed the warrants to C. T. Smith, Deputy Sheriff of Wilson County with the request that he would execute it - Your attention is respectfully invited to Mr. Smith's endorsement on the warrant. Since that endorsement was made I saw Mr. Smith; he states that he met Stratton not long since in Richmond - I would have arrested him but had not the warrants. The impression seems to be that Stratton is in some way connected with the Canal, & may be found in Richmond. I am confident that Mr. Smith, on this occasion was diligent in his efforts to make the arrest. (Sgd.) Louis W. Stevenson 2nd Lieut V.R.C. & A.S.A.C. Bureau R.F. & A.L. Hd. Qrs. 7th S. Dist. Va.
