Respectfully returned to S.C. Armstrong, agent in chge. 5th S. Dist - Upon investigation of this case, I find that the man Conrad Widgeon, was arrested for larceny of the pigs from Mr. William Fitchett some time in November last, and was brought before the examining court, and sent up to the Circuit Court, which set at Eastville on the twentieth of last month; - where this man was tried, convicted, and sentenced to six months in the county jail - Widgeon's statement is, that he was passing the house of Mr. Fitchett, one of his sows ran at him, and that he struck at her, and killed two of the pigs, and being too late to go back to the house to inform Mr. Fitchett of the matter, he took the pigs home with him. - and the next day went to Mr. Fitchett and offered to pay for the pigs & was arrested & taken before a Justice of the Peace.

Eliza Widgeon informs me that she can earn from four to eight dollars pr. week, if she can find constant work, as a seamstress, that her husband had rented a house a short time after he returned to Northampton County, for which he agreed to pay thirty dollars pr year, and she has been living in it for a long time, and the owner has called upon her to pay a portion of the rent $7.00 and he said Eliza seems to think that the rent should be paid by someone besides herself, as her husband is in jail - I do not think from her non admittance that she is in destitute circumstances. She has two small children.
