Respectfully returned to Lt. P.R. Hambrick, Act. S.A.C. - If this girl is well treated it would seem but just that Mr. B.F. Vaughan should receive from the father a fair compensation for the board & clothing of the child since the date of the indenture.

Respectfully returned to Bvt. Maj: W.R. Morse, S.A.C. - I sent for Daniel Stewart & read to him Col. E.J. Strang's Endorsement to the effect that he was paid on the 10th day of June 1865.David insists that there is some mistake in the matter and thinks his name has been confounded with that of David Brown, of the same mess who was paid in Washington on that day. All the boys mentioned in the affidavit agree that Daniel Steward left Washington with them on the 6th or 7th of June, and did not return at that or any future time. I have taken the affidavits of two of them to that effect, and also the affidavits of Daniel Stewart and Daniel Brown. I feel satisfied in my own mind, from the earnest & truthful manner of all these boys, that there must be some mistake, perhaps that suggested in Daniel Stewart's affidavit.
