that evil disposed persons might induce Scott to abscond. It is believed the Mr. M. is willing to assume half the responsibility anyway. — The letters referred to are genuine and were written by one Reed at Scotts request.

Respectfully returned to Bvt. Lieut. Col. James Johnson, S.A.C. with the information that I have examined the Marriage Register for Spottsylvania, Co. Va. and find that Kitty Nelson has not been registered. Only one woman by the name of Nelson appears on the rolls, her former name was Martha Rose his husband's name John Nelson this being the only man by that name, perhaps they were not registered when they presented themselves because they were not living together on the 27th day of Feby. 1866, or if living together at that time were not living in the state.

I did not have charge of the county at the time the register was taken.—

Respectfully forwarded to Bvt Brig. Genl O. Brown, Asst. Comr. with the recommendation that the order of Court in the binding of the within named children be revoked. —
The children as well as Robb were the slaves of Thornbey — hence he knew that Robb was the nearest of kin. — If the Court issued the order Feby 12th 1866. to bind the children, there should certainly have been a record of it. and the clerk could have so informed the agent upon his first visit to the office. The fact that [[Thornbey? Thombey?]] requested the Agent to bind the children to him after Robb. had complained to him (the agt.) looks a little suspicious as to its being a straightforward business affair.
