Respectfully returned
I have investigated the within case and the testimony of the laborer on D. T. Bryan's plantation shows that Edward Stephens never expressed to them any dissatisfaction with the manner in which Mr D. T. Bryan paid him his wages and that when he went to Petersburg, Va. he promised to return and fulfill his contract.
These laborers also state that they are well satisfied with the treatment they receive at the hands of Mr D. T. Bryan
Upon examining Mr Bryan's accounts, I find that Edward Stephens has received money and Orders to the amount of $33.25
Thirteen days lost time 6.48
Total $ 39.73
Amount of pay for 3 months and 20 days $ 45.89
Seemingly leaving a balance in favor of Edward Stephens of $ 6.16 but as there is manifest by no good reason "why he should break the, contract, could its stipulations be carried out he would have to pay Mr. Bryan $13.84
