There are 90 children that would be likely to attend a school at this project. Mr Thos. Wright guarantees the use of one half acre of land for two years, and to perform the labor of the erection of a building. If a colored teacher is employed Board will be furnished by the Freed people. I find among my papers Harrison Swan's memoranda receipt for $32.00 and his bill for like amounts for services rendered. I know that he done quite an amt. of labor, nearly all of the removing and burying of the Small-Pox patients. He was employed by Dr. Pratt, Couch and May on what terms I know not. I paid all the bills presented approved by them, but according to the best of my belief & judgement his labor & expenses would amount to the sum claimed & would therefore recommend its payment. Q.M. & D.O. with the information that I have examined Genl. James' Records and find that on the 9th of July 66 fifty three accounts certified to by Capt. Stuart Barnes A.Q.M. were received from the Q.M. Genls. office with an order to pay them. On the 14th of July 1866 a check for $702.77/100 was sent by Genl. James to Capt. Barnes to pay the accounts and Capt. Barnes acknowledging receipt of this check on the 20th of July. Among these accounts were three in favor of Harrison Swan viz: One for $20.-one for $60. - and one for $10. - nearing in all $90. - which amount was included in the check before mentioned. (Sgd.)
