he paid freely at the earliest day possible. I believe Mr. Bacon and Mr. W. H. Harris desire to pay it as soon as they can and I would not advise a suit at present, I know Bacon and Harris have the reputation of dealing justly with colored men.

From the records of this office it appears that both Daniel Stewart and David Brown were paid at Washington D.C. June 10th. $65 for services in the preceeding months of April and May. 
The Wagon Master, Edward Griffin, whose name heads the list, was paid at the same time, and was present for the purpose of identifying his men. If the evidence submitted with the claim is true, the only inference is that some one representing and identified as Paul Stewart has received his pay. At all events the certified vouchers requested cannot be furnished by this office without falsifying its records.
