Respectfully returned to Bvt: Brig: Gen'l O. Brown, Asst. Comr. Va. with the request that this paper be returned to J. J. Holloway, A.S.A.C. Summerville, Tenn. The father of this boy, John Williams is more than anxious to obtain his son. He is in fact the proper custodian of the boy, being his father, acknowledged in the endorsement dated August 24th 1867. Will not the A.S.A.C at Summerville try again to obtain the consent of the mother for the return of the son to the father. Will she for a stipulated price, to be yearly paid her for the child's service, consent to his joining his father, this price to be fixed by the Bureau and paid to its Agents or any other person designated by the mother for her own use. This money is not offered so much for the childs service, but to compensate the mother for her past trouble in caring for the child in its fathers absence.

There is no question but the father is the legal guardian of the boy, and is able to do much better by him, than his mother.
