As the communication does not state whether the man is white or colored it is impossible to find him diligent search having been made for three squares (on Broad Sts) above and below the market, Dr. Welford prescribes for a great many persons and seldom asks their names; he does not know anyone that answers this communication. State name and occupation and he may possibly be found.

Additional schools are required throughout the city. But where are the teachers? Will the colored people sustain even the present schools in the city, when the Bureau and Northern Societies withdraw their aid. Inasmuch as they now refuse to purchase so much as a spelling book, although spending thousands for swords regalia and parades and require rent for their own churches to teach their own children in free, I see but little hope for the cause of education through their efforts. I do not believe the well meaning writer of this letter could raise one hundred dollars, or even fifty, for the purpose of buying a lot for a colored schoolhouse. I cannot recommend the building of the house in question unless suitable teachers are pledged to use it.
