Respectfully returned to Maj: Gen'l O.O. Howard Comr with the information that I personally examined the Books of Messrs Lanahan & Son and found each item correct as per enclosed statement and checked them off.

Messrs Lanahan & Son made no objection to examining: their books but offered every facility for proper investigation and will if necessary produce all Rail & Steamboat receipts to show their actual shipment of the good & also the affidavit of their Book Keeper who entered the different accounts and articles.

Rearranged the placement of sections. This is not a letter TO the person in the left margin. It doesn't go after the Sender information, like in a Letter Sent or Received. This name is related to this letter in some way. ---------- Reopened for Editing 2024-07-11 16:14:59
