the claims of Stephen Davis Co. E. 37th U.S.C.T. was sent to us by Capt. T.F. Lee, of Raleigh N. Ca. The retained bounty was paid to us by Genl. Balloch by check payable to the order of Claimants for $100. We sent the check to Capt. Lee & have not seen it since. Capt. Lee has some checks that have not been paid as he could not find thereon, we have written him to return them that they might be found through Freedmen Bureau.
