Office Chief. C.S. 1st Mil: Dist.
Richmond, Va. Nov: 25th 67.

Respectfully returned to Bvt. Brig: Genl O. Brown, Asst. Comr, Va. under the present contract (which expires Dec: 31st 1867.) the price of fresh beef in this city is six dollars & forty six cents ($6.46/100) per hundred pounds.

It is thought that the price after Dec: 31st will be considerably higher — I think if a contract be made at Alexandria at ten (10) cents per pound for fresh beef during the entire winter, it will be more economical in the end than any other method of supplying.
