Should the statement be true that Hannah is the wife of Bill I have the honor to inform you that a contract made with her without her Husbands consent is illegal and good for nothing. I am also informed that you shot at this man Bill and that the Magistrate. (Squire Rose refused to take notice of the same as he has also refused to make an Effort to get his family In such cases it is the duty of the Military Authorities to interfere and while it is not my wish or desire to send a guard for you at this time for the purpose of mandating the rights of the Freedmen and bringing you to justice. I would respectfully advise you to give up the Wife and family of Bill and make a prompt report to this Office of your action in this case and assign your reasons for shooting at said Freedmen.
