Sir
In compliance with your request I send you a Guard and have ordered him to arrest Betsey and family and take her back to your place tell her that if she has good reason for leaving you she must report them to this Bureau. Impress upon her the obligation of her contract and tell her I do not want to be compelled to send a guard after her again.

Holbrook S.S. Capt Comdg Dist Meridian Miss

Captain,
I have the honor to inform you that while I was passing through the Freedmens Corral I met Sergt Wise of your command at a house of Ill fame and so reported - who was very imprudent and saucy. I had recommended that these buildings be burned and was notifying the lazy negroes and low white women who inhabit them to find other places to live. at a time like this and in such a community it is very essential that conduct of the troops should be more exemplary.
