I have the honor to acknowledge receipt of your communication of the 26th inst. Due notice has been taken of the information given in reference to political matters in your locality. No funds for your School has been recd at this Office, but I recommended some time ago that aid be given you, to which, however, no reply has as yet been received.

Enclosed please find two Blanks. The report ought to be made in triplicate, one copy to be retained, and two resp. for this Office and Hd Qrs at Vicksburg. I am, however, short of blanks myself, and can therefore only spare those I send you. As soon as my requisition for blanks has been filled, I shall send you more.

Please state under the heading of "Observations" whatever may be of interest in a political way for the Bureau, such as: the breaking into your school, the opposition on the part of the Citizens, if any, [[N.S.F?]]. similar to your Statements in your letters to me. These statements will thus reach Hd Qrs direct, a more preferable way than if they simply were copied from letters to this Office. Please forward the reports at your earliest convenience.

Very respectfully,
Your obdt Servt,
Henry E Rainals

---------- Reopened for Editing 2024-06-27 15:20:02 -White Lieut D.M. [[strikethrough]]White [[/strikethrough]] -I don't think the [[?]] is "higher". The upstroke of the capital M below it can make it look like the letter in that word has a downstroke, but I don't think it does. ---------- Reopened for Editing 2024-06-27 15:34:22 ---------- Reopened for Editing 2024-06-27 15:43:52 In the final entry there are two words between "Teachers" and "Monthly" that the writer inserted above. A previous transcriber had transcribed them as "higher and" but there doesn't appear to be a g in the first word.
