I respectfully beg leave to lay before the Maj. General commanding the following complaint against Lieut. D.M. White, Asst. Sub-Comm'r in the District of which I am in charge.
This officer has ever since he was assigned to duty as Asst. Sub. Comm'r, with Station at Lauderdale, been persistent [[strikethrough]] and negligent [[/strikethrough]] in [[strikethrough]] the performance of [[/strikethrough]] disregarding his duties  At the time I was relieved by him - latter part of July - I fully posted him in regard to his new duties, and particularly as to those required by him at this office, such as, for instance, "to forward his reports on the last day of each month", "to transmit all official papers to the Bureau relative to his duties as Asst Sub Comm'r thro' this office", and similar, but up to the present day he has failed on all occasions to carry out his instructions, and this not from any want of better knowledge - for his attention has too frequently been called to what was required of him, but more I judge from [[strikethrough]] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]] some [[?]] false notion as to the independence of his present position.
Lieut White has, by his actions, made it difficult for me at times to transmit my Reports when due, and in other ways been instrumental in causing delay in the official business of this Office.
