Bureau Refugees Freedmen & A. L.
Office Sub Ass't Comm’r.
Meridian Miss July 20, 1867

Mrs S. Bass,
Meridian. Miss.
Madame
My duties today render it impossible to visit your plantation, as promised in our interview this morning. You will say to your freedmen that I entirely approve your determination to [[strikethrough]] y [[/strikethrough]] employ your extra labor, say twenty hands during the coming week, and that they will be required to acquiesce therein

This proposition is not only sustained by the terms of the contract, but is manifestly to the advantage of both employer and employee, and as such I can make no objection to its immediate execution

I am Madame
Very Respectfully
